About Us

The Student Supports Department was created to better serve the needs of all students by bringing together the people and programs that support their well-being. Our work is grounded in one of the district’s core beliefs: that well-being is essential to students’ ability to succeed. We believe every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and valued at school. Through a range of supports, we aim to champion students through every challenge, celebrate their milestones, and partner with families to ensure no child falls through the cracks. Ultimately, we strive to strengthen how schools respond to student needs and to help build school communities where all children experience care and thrive.

Our Approach

We are working to build a more unified and coordinated system of support for students and families. Our department brings together a wide range of services and programs that care for the whole child, including academic advising, behavioral interventions, mental health services, and support for students navigating housing instability, truancy, or involvement with the juvenile legal system. We also lead efforts to build the capacity of school staff in creating cultures rooted in anti-discrimination, belonging, joy, and high expectations. Whether a student is attending the Vaping Institute, enrolled at the Washington Alternative Learning Center, preparing for the HiSET exam, or seeking a hardship transfer, our team is here and eager to help. By streamlining services and equipping the adults who support our students, we are working to create more inclusive, responsive, and supportive school environments across the district.
