In English 9, students are working on all of the standard areas: reading, writing, speaking and listening, and viewing and representing. Our literary focus is on Who Really Killed Cock Robin, an ecological mystery, and Romeo and Juliet, the classic tale of love and hate. We are using the Elements of Literature series Course 4 for our classroom text. Students are reviewing previously learned skills, as well as acquiring new ones. Additionally, students will be learning the basics of speech presentation and putting those basics into practice. Near the end of the course, students will be assessed using the End of Course Assessment which constitutes twenty percent of their overall grade for the course. Our Sale Creek students are capable of excellence, and we want them to succeed and exceed, not only in school, but in their next role as adults.
English 9 is designed to help them meet the challenges of being an adult.
I would prefer that my students stumble in the pursuit of excellence than smoothly achieve mediocrity.
