As adults we are asked to use many skills: choosing a career, being successful in a career, supporting a family, preparing a budget, obtaining licenses, completing a variety of forms, corresponding with businesses, family and friends, and the list goes on and on. In English 10, our focus is on better communication skills, whether it be giving directions to someone or reading a statement from an insurance company. In English 10, previously learned communication skills will be reviewed and practiced, and many new skills will be introduced and applied. Near the end of the course, students will be assessed using the English 10 Gateway, a state mandated graduation requirement.
Each nine weeks, students will be engaged in a variety of learning activities.
q Reading fiction and non-fiction
q Applying their learning to real world documents
q Researching information for various purposes
q Presenting their findings through a variety of ways
q Analogy review
q Roots, prefix and suffix study
q Study skills and time management training
q Gateway test preparation

Please contact me at the school if you would like more information regarding the English 10 Gateway. Our Sale Creek students are capable of excellence, and we want them to succeed and exceed, not only in school, but in their next role as adults. English 10 is designed to help them meet the challenges of being an adult.
I would prefer that my students stumble in the pursuit of excellence than smoothly achieve mediocrity.
