Students will explore the major civilizations of the past which have laid the foundations for modern society. Students will have the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills as they confront various historical interpretations and discover causes of present issues.

This course is the first in a series of interdisciplinary Social Studies and English credits, and combines the academic interrelation of world history and literature with an emphasis on the relation of written works to the proper historical setting. Course design is for the above average student. Extensive reading is required. (World Cultures is paired with AH-WC English 9 for both terms. Students earn 1 credit in AH-WC English 9 and 1 credit in World Cultures).

This course is a study of the world's major countries and cultural regions. Students will learn and use the ideas, skills and perspectives of geography. This course involves the study of land, people, and their relationships to the land.
