Course: Career Prep I-Language

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: IEP required

Students will develop essential reading, writing and speaking skills to improve basic understanding. The course will focus on personal, occupational and consumer proficiencies needed for independent living and successful employment.

Course: Career Prep II

This course will consist of two components: classroom and practical. The classroom component focuses on entry level employment skills and job-readiness, reasoning skills, decision making skills, social skills and applying and interviewing for a job. Students will develop a portfolio in preparation for transition from school to independent living. The practical component will include interest, ability and aptitude assessments. Students will also participate in the community and/or a work experience.

This community-based Vocational Education/Work-Based Learning experience gives students hands-on experience in the work place in addition to classroom awareness of careers, work behavior and employer expectations. Topics covered in preparation of the transition from school to work include: career exploration, resume writing and job interviews.
