Attention students: The free and reduced lunch application deadline is Sept. 17th.  If you were on the program last year you need to fill out a new application and turn in it in by the deadline.

Attention Seniors! If you have not scheduled your Senior Portrait please do so ASAP at 892-0888.  If you have had your portrait made, please check the updated portrait list to make sure yours has been received by the OHS Yearbook. All portraits must be taken by Oct. 17th.

Attention students: Once again it is time to send nominations in the National Youth Leadership forum on Medicine (summer 2009).  If you are interested in being nominated to participate in this program, please see Mrs. Elliott in guidance.

Attention 9th, 10th and 11th grade: The PSAT/NMSOT test will be Oct. 29th.  If you are interested, please see your guidance counselor, Mrs. Fuller or Mrs. Coe.  The cost is $14 and it will be given here at OHS.

Model UN: Any student interested in Model UN needs to meet in room 207 on Monday, Sept. 8th at 2:20.

French Club is now taking membership applications and dues of $8.  We will elect officers next Tuesday, Sept. 9th.  Get an application from Mrs. Miller in room 213 for officer and membership.

Senior Girls who have a career interest in a typically male dominated field and a strong aptitude in math and science, please come and see Mrs. Seebach or Ms. Ingalls in Guidance concerning the Pearl of Promise Scholarship opportunity.  Deadline is Sept. 5th.

Attention students: Tuesday, Sept. 9th will be Junior School Picture Day and will also be make-up picture day for any Freshmen or Sophomores who have not had their photos made.

Attention students: College Admissions workshop for African American males will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27th from 10:30-1:30 at the East Lake Salvation Army.  This workshop is free and lunch will be served.  This is a wonderful opportunity to explore Selecting the right school, careers and majors.  For more information see Mrs. Seebach or Ms. Ingalls in guidance.

Any student or teacher wishing to participate in the Susan G. Komen Walk for breast cancer can get a form from Mrs. Coggin.  Also, registration for our team “The Owl’s Nest” can be done on line.

FBLA applications are available in the Career and Technology teacher rooms.

Attention Seniors: Students interested in learning more about the Nursing/Allied Heath programs at Chattanooga State may pick up information packets in guidance.  See Mrs. Seebach or Ms. Ingalls to get your packet.

Spirit Shirts and Hoodies will be on sale Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch.

Attention students: Vanderbilt is having a “Vandy Fan for a Day” program for Sophomores and Juniors on Saturday, Nov. 8th.  These students must be high achieving 1st generation college students.  The Deadline for nominations is Wed., Sept. 3rd.  See Mrs. Seebach or Jill Ingalls in guidance for more information.  This is a great opportunity.

Homecoming week will be Sept. 15th thru Sept. 19th.  Powder puff sign up will begin August 27th.  The Homecoming game will be on Friday, Sept. 19th against William Blount

State Benchmark for AYP Attainment is 83% of Students Passing as either Proficient or Advanced

  • As a school, we went from 72% in 2007 to 95% in 2008 an increase of 23% points!
  • Our Caucasian students improved by 19% going from 78% to 97%!
  • Our Economically Disadvantaged students improved by 31% going from 59% to 90%!
  • Our African American students improved by 37% going from 52% to 89%!
  • Our Hispanic students improved by 41% going from 56% to 97%!
  • Our Students with Disabilities improved by 60% going from 22% to 82

Reading

Graduation Rate

State Benchmark for AYP Attainment is 89.5% students that enter the ninth grade year graduating four years and one summer later

  • We improved our graduation rate by 3.8% to take us from 85.6% to 89.4%.

Biology

  • The science department continues their stellar performance with 99.2% with a three-year average TVAAS score that states that students earn 9.6% higher than they are predicted on their state tests!

  • Lady Owls Softball – TSSAA Class AAA State Champions!
  • Boys Track – 4 x 100, 4 x 200, 100 meter dash - TSSAA Class AAA State Champions!
