Gender Roles

(grades 5-6).  Caddie does not fit the picture of other young ladies.  She is a real adventurer.  She's rather hunt than sew, plow than bake, and beat her brothers' dares every chance she gets.  Her spirit and sense of fun make this a very different book.

Caper, W., Whoopi Goldberg, Enslow Publishers, 1999.(grades 4-5),  Whoopi is in a class of her own.  She was able to become one of the world's greatest stars through her own work and through believing in herself.  She did let the fact that she was a colored woman trying to make it in a white world stop her from becoming what she wanted to be.

Williams, J., Sandra Day O'Connor, Ferguson Publishing Co.,2000., (grades5-6) It is not often that a female is able to become a judge.  Sandra Day O'Connor is the first woman to become a judge on the highest court in the land.  How was she able to do this?
